We have to remember that the glucan has to somehow get into interaction of cells in our body and something has to happen. It’s not like the cells will be swimming in a sea of glucan and nothing happens. They have to bind it, recognize it and start the signaling inside the cells to see some reaction.
For years we didn’t know exactly how it’s done. That’s why the appearance of the soluble glucan was so important for us, because as soon as we have a soluble glucan, we could label it and we could see it in microscope and so on. By using it, we found that receptor for complement can bind it and after the binding, it transfers the signals inside the cell and it starts the whole process inside the cells.
